Calculus: The News...ical!

We want your feedback!

Calculus: The Musical! is still on the move, with a broader reach than ever! Josh and Breona are literally hitting both coasts this year, from California to New York by way of Oregon, Arizona, Alabama, Illinois, Colorado, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, etc, etc!
Drop Sadie a line at sbowman@knowtheatre.com to schedule a stop at your school!

The third edition of the album Calculus: The Musical! is currently in production, but before we finalize it, we'd really like your input! If you would kindly answer these five questions, we will give you access to icanhasmath's new music video, all about non-differentiable features of graphs!

Thank you, as always, for doing you part to keep the "edge" in "education!" From all of us at Matheatre and Know Theatre of Cincinnati, we wish you a (dy)namic 2013!

Oh the things Little Isaac will do...For Science!

Josh and Breona have been on the road all year and are no longer anywhere near where this photo was taken. If they were in Arizona in February, North Carolina in March, and will be in Ilinois in April, who can calculate their rate of change?

We are still booking for east coast and a few midwest locations through the end of May. It's not too late to make "Calculus: The Musical!" part of your pre- or post-AP exam celebrations/study marathons!

But don't take my word for it...here are some thoughts from students in Phoenix, AZ who saw the show last month:

"Calculus the Musical was definitely an entertaining show and totally worth watching. I was a bit skeptical about watching a show about math at first but my opinion turned 180 degrees. I enjoyed the music and lyrics they sung which was brilliantly composed. I liked how the performers added some spice to the show by getting the audience involved in some of their acts (which was very comical). Overall the show allowed me to get a preview on what was coming in calculus II, like the anti-derivative and L'Hopital's rule which gave me an idea on what they were in a funny way."

"Regarding Calculus the Musical. Definitely worth the time. It's worth anyone's time that is taking any level of Calculus. The performers' energy and excitement for math radiates and is reflected in my own studies. The most important thing I took away from it was the evolution of math and a better appreciation for those notable figures who helped move it along. Also, I left with a desire to better understand calculus so as to follow along better in the songs. ;0) Calculus is tight!"

And with that,

Welcome Back Conrad!

Calculus:The Musical

Summer's barely started but the 2011-12 tour of "Calculus: The Musical!" is already falling into place. With bookings already solid in places like Colorado, Kentucky, Arizona, Missouri, etc, now is already the time to get your school or event on our calendar!

Sean and Jae are moving along to other things this year, but we are happy to welcome back the energetic and exuberant Ms. Breona Conrad, who toured with us for the second half of the 2008-09 season. We are even happier for her to be joined by her soon-to-be husband, Mr. Joshua Murphy, who brings a strong background in physics to his thoughtfully dynamic portrayal of Isaac Newton. This charming powerhouse duo is ready to rock your math class like nobody's business!

I look forward to another year of "Calculus: The Musical!" Talk to you soon!

Two-thousand-eleven : Primetime!

Calculus:The Musical

It's 2011 and we here at Matheatre and Know Theatre of Cincinnati would like to extend a big, warm, mathy hug to all of you who have joined us or continued your support over the last year. The national tour of "Calculus: The Musical!" keeps on growing and reaching more and more students every week, every month, every year, and we couldn't be happier or more grateful.

In 2011 Sean and Jae and Little Isaac will be traveling all the way to the west coast, bringing "Calculus: The Musical!" into classrooms from Oregon to Southern California with stops in Utah along the way. They're then swinging through the Southwest, back into the heartland and all the way back over to the east coast to finish out the school year. As always, contact me, Sadie, if you'd like to book a visit to your school or institution.

What else is new? Well, let's see. We've released the second-edition cast recording of "Calculus: The Musical!" It features a ton of friends who've worked with us along the way (and maybe came to your school) on all of the songs from the show plus some bonus tracks.
Marc's current project dubbed: icanhasmath, released, Be Rational an online EP about Rational Functions. His non-math band, Bad September (did you know Marc is in another band?!) also released an album recently.
Sadie, living in Portland, Oregon now, is continuing to work with the fine folks of Know Theatre on a telecommuting basis. She still works directly with our schools to set up tour dates and make sure everybody gets to where they need to go. She loves it in the Pacific Northwest and is happy to be able to continue working on the "Calculus" tour while concurrently pursuing other ventures (she's starting a vegan baking/cooking company in Portland, and is getting ready to go to Thailand to film the pilot episode of a travel/cooking show. Did you know she's into food?).
Eric Vosmeier, director of this year's version of "Calculus: The Musical!" is continuing to run a rockin' independent theatre company in Cincinnati, OH, along with Doug, Alex, Sammy and a whole ton of swell folks who help maintain and promote the tour of this show.

So keep on calculatin', everybody, and have an awesome 2011!

Two-thousand-ten here we go again!

Calculus:The Musical

School has started and the national tour of
"Calculus: The Musical!" is making preparations
to push off for--can you believe it--YEAR FIVE.
That's right. After a so-far total of over 260 performances and having so far reached over 75,000 students and math enthusiasts nationwide,
we cannot WAIT to get back on the road!

Sean and Jae are signed back with us for a second year to bring their sweet-faced, honey-voiced, energy-infused take on higher math to the masses for another academic season.

Some big news this year is that we're planning to push ourselves just a little harder and break through to the west coast in January. If you've thought you were too far away to score a visit, think again!

Other big news is that our SECOND EDITION CAST RECORDING is now available! Featuring the musical and vocal talents of many gifted Calcul-actors who have worked with us over the years, it has more songs, more videos, and more va-va-voom than ever before! Available at our STORE.

Contact yours truly, Sadie Bowman at calculus @ knowtheatre.com to schedule a performance or, you know, just browse around for info. Have a wonderful, spectacular school year and keep on accelleratin'!

SUMMERTIME

Calculus:The Musical

It's summer! Time to kick back, let your hair down,
and keep the love of Calculus alive!

Believe it or not, the schedule for the 2010-11 academic year is already filling in, so it's never, ever too early to email sbowman @ knowtheatre.com to schedule your visit!

Sean and Jae are back on board for a second year on the road with us. We've already got them lined up to go to Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri, Illinois, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, New York...really they get to go all over the place. They'll come to us this fall to continue to improve and evolve their show, continue to buff up their math powers, and mightily kick off their return tour! We are happy to have them back. They even have an encore number this year, so when they come to your school be sure and ask them for it at the end of the show! ;-)

Here's hoping your summer vacation is everything you dreamed it would be.
xoxo

THE MIGHTY MONARCH!

"Calculus: The Musical!" visited Monarch High School in Louisville, CO for the third year in a row on March 9. Sean and Jae were greeted by a sea of people who were MORE than ready to sing along with "Maxima/Minima!"

Sean & Jae visit the Mighty Monarch...High School.

This work becomes all the more rewarding when we are given the opportunity to return to particular schools year after year. Teachers are able to work the songs and characters into their curriculum, students are primed for every humorous reference, and it's really an all-around great time for all of us. Special thank yous to Monarch HS and Silver Creek HS, both of which became Distinguished Three-Peat Hosts this year. We can't wait to come back in 2011! And we hope to see all of you Second-Timers for round three next year, all you First-Timers for a second time, and if we haven't worked together yet, well, we look forward to meeting you soon. :-)

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Calculus:The Musical

YES! Sean and Jae have pushed off for round 2 of the 2009-10 tour of “CALCULUS: THE MUSICAL!” Look out, ’cause they’re probably coming to an area near you. Get it…area…

…yeah, that’s what we do. Sorry.

Season’s Greetings

Sean and Jae, this year’s nationally touring cast, are back at home base of Know Theatre, having wrapped up a fun-filled Fall semester and now get to recharge their batteries before hitting the road for the long haul this Spring. So far they’ll be going as far west as Utah and as far east as Massachusetts between January and May!

They’ll be spending the break working up some encore material as well as laying down tracks on a project that I can’t tell you about yet because it’s going to be a surprise. Suffice it to say that you’ll soon be hearing the hits from some of your past favorite Calcul-actors emanating from a CD player near you…oh drat, I’ve said too much!

Anyway, we are scheduling tour dates like crazy so now is the time to contact me if you want in on this Spring Scheduling extravaganza!

Enjoy your winter break and may the season find you and yours with Calculus always in your hearts.

xoxo
